Reem Mall — ENBD Branch
Reem Mall is the main retail and leisure destination on Reem Island, just off Abu Dhabi's main island and one of the emirate's fastest-growing residential areas. ISG was engaged on the Emirates NBD branch inside the mall to deliver Green Building Management, LEED Certification, and Performance Modeling across the design and construction stages.
What an ENBD branch certification has to do
The certification scope on a bank branch differs sharply from a typical retail fit-out. ENBD branches are part of the bank's regulated estate — they have to meet ENBD's internal sustainability KPIs, the host-mall's tenant guidelines, the local rating-system requirements, and the operational standards set by UAE banking-sector regulators around lighting, security, and customer experience. The LEED ID+C credit strategy has to land all of those simultaneously, on a fixed retail-fit-out timeline, in a space the bank doesn't actually own.
That last point matters: an ENBD branch inside Reem Mall sits inside a leased shell. The mall's central plant supplies cooling; the mall's facilities team controls building-level utilities; the mall's tenant guidelines set what can and can't be modified. A LEED interior-fit-out certification has to work within those constraints, optimising the elements ENBD does control — lighting, equipment, materials, indoor air quality, occupant comfort.

Why the Reem Island setting matters
Reem Island has been one of Abu Dhabi's most active residential zones over the past decade. Reem Mall opened to anchor the island's retail and leisure offering, and ENBD's branch inside it places the bank in the middle of a high-footfall, residential-adjacent location — the kind of placement that drives daily transactional traffic. Certifying the branch reflects ENBD's broader commitment to running a sustainability-rated estate across its UAE network, not just at a flagship.
