Research consistently shows that noise is the number one complaint in open-plan offices, hospitals, and residential buildings. Yet acoustic design is often treated as an afterthought, addressed only when problems emerge after occupancy.

ISG takes a different approach. As the only sustainability consultancy in the region with in-house acoustic capability, we integrate sound performance into the design process from the earliest stages. This means acoustic requirements inform facade specifications, HVAC system selection, and floor plan layouts — not the other way around.

The intersection of acoustic design and sustainability is where ISG creates unique value. Facade design is a prime example: the glass specification that optimizes daylight and thermal performance must also meet sound insulation requirements for external noise. HVAC systems that minimize energy consumption must also control mechanical noise to acceptable levels.

When these disciplines are handled by separate firms, conflicts emerge late in the design process — leading to costly redesign, compromised performance, or both.
